The YohnCo Ready-Mix Driver delivers ready-mixed concrete and other associated products to job sites located within a reasonable proximity of their assigned plant. Drivers will be asked to drive at other locations but will stop and start their day at the same location. During peak season the daily work schedule may consist of up to five, 10 hour days, with overtime on both a voluntary or mandatory basis and will include some Saturdays. The Ready-Mix driver is crucial in customer retention and quality control as they are the face of YohnCo concrete. The Ready-Mix driver will contact dispatch, daily, to receive start time. The drivers are the face of the YohnCo company image and as such the cleanliness of the driver’s assigned vehicle and personal appearance are what our customers judge YohnCo by. It is paramount that all trucks are maintained and kept clean at all times—this includes the inside as well as the outside of the truck. Time will be allowed to each driver for cleaning.
Primary Duties & Functions:
· Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of ready-mix truck pursuant to D.O.T. regulations.
· Daily check: fluid levels of engine oil and antifreeze, tire pressure, brakes, driver operated controls, washout and systems and report repair needs immediately to appropriate supervisor and/or the shop.
· At the end of shift, daily clean truck with hose and brush and using cleaning solution when necessary.
· Fill water tank before each delivery checking to make sure that valves are shut prior to filling the tank.
· Check delivery ticket to make sure any admixtures or ancillary products are taken to the job-site.
· Take the most direct route to job site or use dispatched map pins when necessary to ensure on-time delivery.
· Safely drive ready-mix truck to jobsite and arrive with the desired slump within the customer or job specifications.
· Wear appropriate PPE for each job: safety vest, hard hat, steel-toe boots.
· Add any water needed on the job to reach and maintain slump on the ticket but report any additional on-site requests for adding air or water to the dispatch manager BEFORE adding. Document these additions for invoicing and quality control.
· Add necessary additives such as fibers, chemicals, foam admixtures, cements, or integral colors at plant or jobsite as directed by Plant manager and job ticket.
· Pursuant to job needs, place chutes on the rear of the truck for discharge.
· Prior to leaving jobsite, complete all paperwork.
· After discharge, wash the chutes and drum in appropriate washout location as directed by the contractor and/or plant manager. At no time can the mixer be driven on any streets with the chutes still on the rear of the mixer.
· Maintain safety and security of assigned vehicle as well as job site security and safety as it pertains to overhead boom operations (i.e. power lines, survey markers)
· Responsible for crew adherence to jobsite safety while lifting supplies and equipment on the job site
· Communicate with YohnCo Dispatch any problems or jobsite issues, immediately, via two-way radio or headset
· At shift end, complete and turn in all paperwork.
· Maintain effective working relationships with peers, suppliers, and customers.
· Promote and maintain the professional image and reputation of the company and ensure timely problem resolution and customer satisfaction.
· Other duties as assigned by the plant manager, including but not limited to: greasing, adjusting, cleaning bag house and ventilation systems, shoveling, and plant system checks.
· Mandatory attendance at driver trainings and annual safety meeting.
Minimum requirements:
· Valid Class A CDL
· Able to maintain driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations, and meet company policy requirements, including medical card and US DOT mandated drug testing.
· Able to stand, walk, climb, bend, stretch, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, drive, ride, twist, push/pull of controls and ride on rough terrain.
· Able to work in inclement weather (wet/dry, extreme heat/cold), lift at least 80 pounds, and drive a manual transmission.
· Ability to be flexible with an ever changing schedule of concrete delivery and needs
· Available for occasional Saturdays, evenings, and/or overnights
· Ability to take instruction and guidance from peers and management
· Ability to work with customers and other employees in a diplomatic manner, in a variety of stressful situations
Preferred Skills:
· 1-3 years of previous CDL driving experience
· Self-motivated
· General knowledge of maintenance
